The "you're invited" feel for Lars von Trier's Melancholia is a stroke of pure genius. How can you refuse watching Kiki Dunst, la Gainsbourg and others suffer as the end of the world approaches? How?

It's the execution of the concept that counts.

Andrew: yes! I love that image, it's like that Ophelia painting but creepier.

It's such a great image. Only Lars von Trier can make the worst of human misery look so beautiful and inviting.

Looks good. And, excitingly, 'Melancholia' hadn't even hit my radar yet. The film title and poster made me think... wouldn't it be lovely if Lars von Trier and Darren Aronofsky got together on the same project? I honestly think it would work...
