Yes. Yes they were. The scene you show in this post is very reminiscent of the opening of Psycho. I never noticed it before, but it definitely is - well as far as something can be reminiscent of something that came out around the same time.
Yes Kevyn, absolutely, I noticed the similarities and some of the angles Naruse uses throughout the film are very Hitchcockian, if you can call them that.
