Question.

I've had "Take It All" stuck in my head for a few days now and after revisiting "Nine" I couldn't help but wonder, why Marion Cotillard wasn't nominated for a gazillion awards.
Sure everyone hates the movie but does anyone actually think the "Up in the Air" girls, for example, were better than Cotillard?

I, for one, think that Cotillard probably deserved a nomination. She was/is certainly more deserving than either of the women from Up in the Air.

In fact, I think that Cotillard is more deserving than all of the Supporting Actress nominees save for Mo'Nique

I think it's simple, people wanted Nine to fail...Penelope (somewhere atop with MoNique for the two who DON'T suck, to me) probably got it by an edge because she's popped up and precursors, is well known, etc, etc.

I answer your question with a question. Are people afraid to omit Mo'Nique from (being the winner) of their Best Actress lineup? Granted, she's good but in a year where there was literally a plethora of great supporting women I wonder if people are afraid of being racist so even in cases when they don't LOVE the performance they tack her on anyways. Am I crazy here, or is she without a doubt the "bestest"?

She wasn't nominated because Weinstein fucked up her campaign, and Cruz was basically a fall-back plan in case it DID fail so he could still get a nomination.

Duh?

Andrew - Mo'Nique was head and tails above the rest of the contenders. Pretty much everyone agrees, even those who do not like the movie.

Jose - She was, and I have no explanation aside from Harvey screwing up her campaign by asking peeps to vote her in Lead and not supporting.

Andrew: you make an excellent point, I've yet to see a list that overlooks Mo'Nique and those damn "Up in the Air" girls (which I still really don't get, Farmiga maybe, but Kendrick's not only annoying but unconvincing). And the inverse thing seems to have happened to "Nine". While everyone includes Mo'Nique in their lists even if it's just out of cattle behavior and they don't love the performance, everyone snubs "Nine" even if they enjoyed it and thought it was good.
In my book "Nine" is a much better movie than four of the Best Picture nominees and it's sad to think that everybody thinks it's so cool to hate it.

Michael's right, I don't like "Precious" but I thought Mo'Nique was excellent. Although she wouldn't rank number one as my best supporting actress performance.

If Nine was in place of The Blind Side, it would still be my #10 of the nominees. *shrugs*

Cotillard and Melanie Laurent both should've been in that category if it weren't for the screwy campaigns. It's a shame, really. And Mo'Nique was so clearly the best performance of the year, lead or supporting, male or female. Hands down, in my opinion.

Obviously I'm outnumbered. I don't know why I didn't looooove her in Precious, because I really like her: the star. Definitely good, but eh. I don't know.

Yeah you and me both Andrew. I thought she was good but of course my only previous reference of her was from the clips I saw of her hosting "School of Charm" or whatever that reality show was called. However I don't think I'd list her among the personal best I saw last year. All of this is making me want to do a best of list which I've never done before lol. Should I?

YES. Please. I'm in the process of doing mine. The only interesting thing about this season is to see the variation on everyone's list. So yeah. Compile a list. Please.

Hahaha then so be it.
