Style Sunday

As I stated earlier this week, I will never get over having touched Kylie Minogue last Monday, so it's fitting that I get back to this weekly column by discussing what she wore that day...right?
As part of her book tour, Kylie showed up in a sheer Emilio Pucci mini dress that redefines sexy classiness. The intricateness of the dress is stunning, especially because it looks as if it is showing off more than it did...

Just take a look at the back!

Isn't she breathtaking?

Amy Adams was a revelation in Vionnet at the Critics Choice Awards ten days ago. The lovely actress was able to convey an elegant sexiness she never has displayed before.

Style Sunday.

I've said it before and I'll say it now again: why can't Kate Beckinsale be as interesting an actress as she is a dresser? This simple Dior sheath speaks for itself.

Queen Cate stunned NYC audiences with her seemingly delicious turn in Uncle Vanya and those of us who can't see her, still get to be stunned by her amazing style. She rocked the post-show red carpet in this pencil skirt and lovely top by Givenchy. Notice how she's practically wearing no makeup! Ugh, this woman constantly shows us how it's done...

Leave it to Diane Kruger to wear pajamas somewhere and look like a gazillion bucks. This sleep attire-inspired ensemble by Louis Vuitton certainly wouldn't do such wonders for someone without Diane's risky couture choices. The gorgeous golden bag and simple makeup give the look the crowning touches.

As much as Annie rocks the long wavy hair, this pixie cut is highlighting her face in an astonishing way. See how the bright sunglasses and pink lips give her an Audrey Hepburn air, while her stunning Erdem sheath is to die for with its understated print.

Style Sunday.

This is a weekend of bests. After yesterday's fantastic one sheet, today we have the absolute best red carpet look we've had so far in 2012. The always stunning Blake Lively just outdid herself in this stunning Zuhair Murad siren gown. The nude fabric is gorgeous but what results even more fantastic is the complex beading that forms a sort of shield around the actress. It's like Metropolis meets Rita Hayworth and I can not get enough of it.

Do you love it or think she could've done better? Please share your opinion in the comments!

Emma Stone is once again queen of this column, as she shows off her risky choices by going with this overwhelmingly floral Dolce & Gabbana sheath. The detail in the embroidery is magnificent, but what works so well is that Emma carries it with graceful style, other starlets would've been drowned by the amount of detail and have ended looking like they're wearing curtains, but Emma pulls it off wonderfully.

Is there anything she can't do?

There's undeniably a certain washed out-ness to the way this pale blue Emilio Pucci compliments Emma Stone, but it's this barely there touch that also makes it one of her most glamorous looks to date. The simplicity of the pencil skirt and Grecian inspired top suggest nudity without actually revealing a single inch of skin. Gotta love that Emma kept it simple by choosing to go with unruly hair and even simpler makeup. The nude pumps and discrete handbag are just to die for.

Whatever Naomi Watts is up to lately, she should keep doing it! After looking breathtaking during the Cannes Film Festival, she strikes back with a perfect look to attend the Women if the Year awards. This Versace floor length dress hugs Naomi beautifully but the best part might just be her effortless hairstyling. She looks like a Greek goddess getting up from a nap.

Speaking of goddesses, how delicious is Charlize Theron in this Dior Haute Couture cocktail dress? That she's not even wearing any jewelry or heavy makeup speaks tons of how much she trusted the dress to do all the important talking.

Which of these two blonde bombshells is your favorite?

Style Sunday (+ Cannes Wrap Up)

After that liquid gold Dolce & Gabbana Kylie wore for the premiere of Holy Motors I was sure she'd blow my mind forever and ever. Albeit beautiful, this Roberto Cavalli is a bit underwhelming in terms of Cannes-ity. She does look stunning but the loose hair is a bit meh.

Oh my beloved Diane Kruger. Can we all agree that I should stop profiling other women on this column and just focus on whatever she is up to. She was the picture of fashion forward, orgasmic sartorial taste in this stunning Christian Dior ball gown. The plaid made me think it was McQueen at first but they haven't done any of this in quite a while and Jesus, those lace appliqués are a thing of pure beauty.

Also while we're at this, head over to The Film Experience and read my Cannes wrap up.

To promote their new movie together, the lovely Charlize Theron and the obnoxious - but undeniably pretty - Kristen Stewart went for similar looks. Theron is a vision, as usual, in a form fitting Dior Haute Couture dress that gives her flowy movement while highlighting her beauty.

Stewart, who usually pops up in miniskirts, leather jackets or an assortment of gowns that make her look more disgusted than stylish, delivers her all time greatest look in this illusion-style Marchesa. The house's extravagant designs should've drowned the starlet, but she actually looks stunning.

Do you think they decided to wear similar dresses on purpose?

They just grow so fast. Sobs.
Chloë Grace Moretz was a toddler just yesterday and now she's looking all sorts of gorgeous while wearing Dolce & Gabbana. This simple dress reminds me of the one worn by Madge in her Love Profusion video and that is never ever a bad thing.

ScarJo has been mixing a lot of patterns lately and only as someone as beautiful as her can do, she always manages to look stunning. This time around she showed up in Preen to receive her Walk of Fame star. Paired with a simple hairdo and sexy toe peeps, she is a pin-up gone wow.

Are you feeling all the prints and patterns this week?

I'm not sure if I'm more excited about having Pé back in red carpets or because she's doing red carpets for Woody Allen's new movie. Either way she looks like a queen in this flesh colored Dolce & Gabbana dress with a lovely pattern. The pattern is truly exceptional, no? It blends gorgeously with Pé's skin tone and makes for a truly organic look. Gotta love that she put her hair up, which always gives her a regal air. The simple makeup is to die for.

Elizabeth Banks is someone I usually find quite bland. Yes, she has impeccable taste and never looks bad, but I never want to look at her twice, until now. Her risky move by combining these two, extremely different, Peter Pilotto pieces is praise worthy. Sure, the colors are similar and therefore have coherence, but not anyone would dare mix those patterns, put on a pair of thematically related pumps and go out to the world. For that effortless class and cojones, Effie Trinket, I salute you.

I'm not sure why are movies being so promoted for so long nowadays but who cares when they give us looks like these two. First up Charlize Theron is absolutely regal in a blue Stella McCartney sheath. The complete simplicity makes her look completely self aware of her beauty and that's one thing nobody can disagree with.

My beloved Pé is effortlessly gorgeous in an Emilio Pucci black dress. Gotta love the fold over her stomach (which cleverly might help hide any of her postpartum insecurities) while highlighting her stunning legs. The simple hair and makeup make it look like she merely threw this on before leaving the house and we all know not all of us can actually pull that off.

J. Lo gets it bad a lot, but sometimes she can get it so good! She's completely stunning wearing a simple top with this Lanvin maxi skirt with metallic mesh touches. That she went for simple strappy sandals and let her hair down is remarkable because it makes her look perhaps the best she's looked since the 2010 Oscars.

Every time I see how astonishing Jennifer Hudosn looks all the time, I can't help but wonder why on earth doesn't Beyoncé learn a thing or two from her. She's absolutely regal in this peach Reem Acra strapless gown. The top is detailed with golden appliqués and the lower half reminds me of something Grace Kelly would've favored.

So yeah, I guess Brooklyn Decker is an actress...although I had an argument with myself over what exactly makes someone an "actor". Are you an actor because you're in movies? Do you actually need to know how to act? I'm sure the luscious Ms. Decker never intended me to go into such a profound stream of thought wondering whether she should be in this column or not, but any way she's in Battleship so she gets a free pass for now and how could she not? Just see how flawless this Stella McCartney dress is.

Sigh.

Prepare yourself to listen to one of the most clichéd expressions around but Kate Winslet is aging like a fine wine. Yes, she was gorgeous when she made Titanic 15 years ago, but ever since she's become one of the finest actresses in contemporary history and revealed herself to be even more lovely than we'd first envisioned. She was truly perfect in this Jenny Packham column to celebrate the re-release of the movie that made her a star. Even if the dress strictly follows what she's been doing time and time again on the red carpet for more than three years now, you can't argue about how flawless she looks. Perhaps she borrowed a bit from a Joan Crawford character - she did play Mildred Pierce after all - and the hair is out of a classic noir. Best of all might be to see her smiling so lovingly instead of pouting like a severe mannequin. She has rarely looked so vibrant!

January Jones, you, placenta-eating, children-scaring, Hitchcock redux, magnificent specimen of a woman, I missed you in last week's Mad Men premiere but seeing you in this stunning YSL dress more than made up for it.

Which of these ladies in black is your favorite? Did you miss January as Betty too?

That magnificent creature known to us earthlings as Jennifer Lawrence has been making the rounds to promote The Hunger Games (which I saw twice this weekend and am devoting an altar to) and has rarely looked better. Although that's not fair to say considering she's never done a faux pas when it comes to fashion. Here in this forest green Calvin Klein collection cocktail dress she lets her cleavage out while remaining elegant. I love that her stylists haven't been treating her like a 30 year old and have softened her makeup and hair. She looks radiant and youthful.

Now, this Prbal Gurung sheath continues the golden/metallic theme she's been doing for this promotional tour and this might be my favorite look of hers so far this year (sorry Oscar nominations day and awesome liquid gold dress from the movie premiere). Her face looks positively angel like and the way in which the dress hugs her body is sexy beyond words. Extra points for those mesh sandals.

Did you see The Hunger Games this weekend? If so, is your love for J.Law now official?

You all know I was obsessed with Jennifer Lawrence during the 2011 awards season. At 19 she kept blowing our minds and expectations with gorgeous look after look. Kudos for always finding the way to explore iconic designers while giving an opportunity to maverick geniuses (her red Calvin Klein at the Oscars was simplicity turned into orgasmic couture) This time around to promote The Hunger Games, Lawrence is simply divine in Prabal Gurung. The gold fabric might be a bit too reminiscent of Meryl's Oscar dress (who would've thought Meryl would influence fashion someday?) and the slit might be too Angelina (but J.Law keeps it classy!) but overall what works so well is that it's a classic look with a hip touch. Gotta love the smoky eyes and how she went for a loose hairdo instead of the severity the dress might've invited.

Are you as fascinated by J.Law's  remarkable sense of fashion as I am?

Julianne Moore has been making the rounds to promote Game Change, the movie where she plays former Alaska governor and vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Moore hasn't been sporting any pantsuits, fortunately and instead is giving us pure Hollywood glamour. She is divine in this lush Lanvin column dress. Moore rarely goes for black and white so she actually looks simply fresh in this.

Juli knows green does wonders to her complexion and it's always a thrill to see her wearing it. This avant garde Tom Ford design perfectly blends two shades of green in a dress that evokes both Joan Crawford and Tilda Swinton.

Do you love Juli on the red carpet too?

Yow-za! How on earth does Helen Mirren get hotter with age is something that will always defy logic, science and common sense. She is the epitome of sexy in this curve hugging Dolce and Gabbana dress. The color is impeccable and requires the person who wears it can pull it off (I'm looking at you Golden Globes' MiWi). Mirren's hair contrasts beautifully with the powerful hue and her choice of accessories is flawless.

Do you have any theories on how and why Mirren looks so amazing?
