I placed this at number 8 on my list of the best of last year, so I'm a big fan, but in retrospect, I find the ending a bit contrived. I think the maze in the plot is a little too complicated. That said, he's a master director. His control over the visuals and the pace is brilliant. And that bus sequence... holy crap. It's so tough to sit through but it's so rewarding at the same time.
And yet we come back, year after year, and discuss Oscar endlessly, don't we? If the Academy makes such mediocre choices, maybe we should hope that our favorite, great films are simply ignored, instead of elevated to the level of mediocrity...and maybe we should ignore Oscar too.
"Incendies" was a hard-hitting, beautifully made film and I enjoyed your review on PopMatters.

We totally should ignore Oscar indeed Tom, too bad these smaller movies need his name attached to get distribution elsewhere.
